Spindle Services Company History

In 1953 Eaves and Washbourne Limited was formed to serve the ever increasing need for precision ground parts in the UK Engineering market. Soon they were being asked to process many ‘round and ground’ spindle type components.

In 1965 Eaves and Washbourne Limited linked up with Parker Majestic of Detroit, USA to manufacture and market Parker Majestic’s range of world-renowned precision grinding machines and their full precision spindle range within the UK.

By the mid-1970’s business was booming and a new company was formed to concentrate on the spindle and grinding machine markets - Associated Machines and Tools Limited (AMT).

By the mid 1980’s AMT were the largest UK manufacturer of precision spindles and machine tool spindles. In 1984 AMT was purchased outright by Parker Majestic who owned it until the company was closed in 1990.

In 1989, Spindle Reconditioning Services Limited was set up with ex-AMT employees. This was added to the existing Eaves group of companies consisting of Eaves and Washbourne, CMR Engineering Limited, Albion Heat Treatment Limited, Plasma Coated Surfaces Limited and Gulson Plating Limited.

By 1990, the Eaves group of businesses had extensive experience and expertise in heat treatment, precision grinding, plasma metal spraying, plating, and spindle manufacture and rebuild capability. These skills were to be the foundation of the business.

Spindle Reconditioning Services continued to grow and renewed ties with Parker Majestic in 1994 with a license agreement to manufacture, repair and refurbish spindles throughout the European engineering arena.

As more and more customers turned to Spindle Reconditioning services to solve their new spindle problems as well as their old ones – the company name was changed in 1997 to Spindle Services Limited to cover all aspects of machine tool spindles.

Also in 1997, Simon Emms joined Spindle Services as Managing Director, having previously worked for Associated Machines and Tools/ Systematic Drillhead and Parker Majestic in Troy, Michigan, USA for several years.

Spindle Services continued to grow into the and in 2001 moved to new, larger premises on Central City Industrial Estate, Coventry in the heart of British manufacturing excellence with a wealth of local resources on our door step.

Since 2001 Spindle Services has grown to rival all its major competitors in the UK. Spindle Services now operates independently of any other Spindle Manufacturer, designing its own spindles and associated machine tool products for the OEM market.

Now, in the 21st Century, Spindle Services has changed and adapted to meet the demands of a dynamic machine too market that is not just domestic. With over 50 years of engineering history and experience behind us, we are now a highly respected international supplier of spindle services. Our highly skilled, time served work force work to exacting degrees of accuracy for a wide and varied customer base including blue chip companies.
